River Beautification and Pure Water

River has become highly polluted because of chemicals and other wastes. Encroachment and dumping of debris in the river bed had become a major issue. Central government sanctioned a grant of Rs 990 crore for a clean river. A proposal for river bed beautification has also been sent to the government. 

ABOUT PROJECT

Work on beautification of Mula and Mutha river started under National River Improvement Scheme

Under this scheme, 11 sewage treatment plants are being erected along with laying of 113.60 km long sewage pipe line and 24 toilets

Renovation of existing sewage treatment plants

Proposal for river bed beautification sent to State government

Benefits of the project

Around 515 MLD water will be available for agriculture purpose

Will reduce river pollution

Capacity of water purification projects will be enhanced by 396 MLD for every day (?)
